Iconic. Passionate. Timeless. Breathless.

Didn't get tickets for the U2 tour because I blinked, breathed and they were gone before I had time to think about it. Watching their Paris concert is, I'm sure, second best but still pretty good.

IT Brain

Why is it when you figure out how to do something on phone or computer that when you come back to do it again you can't remember. You approach it from a couple of angles hoping your memory will be prompted but nope, a dead end each time.

You see, rather than whinging about annoying Christmas supermarket shoppers who adopt an alter ego and become aggressive hunters...yes instead of whinging about them I've turned my frustrations inwards to lament my poor IT memory.

Christmas Shout Out

Don't normally do this but here goes:

"A Christmas shout out to the one who doesn't like my sock and posh shoe combo thing" (you know who you are).

How Did I Manage?

I am old enough to remember life as an adult where I didn't have a mobile phone. I can't remember how it worked. I am imagining it went something like this:

  • if I wanted to arrange something with someone I'd pick up the phone and arrange a time and place to meet
  • if I was running late I'd just have to run faster
  • if I wanted to cancel at the last minute I'd have to either not turn up or honor my original arrangement
  • while I was with them I gave them 100% whole attention with no distractions
  • when I left them that was it until the next phone call/time we met
They say that less is more. I wonder if we over communicate these days but really don't say any more than in the "olden days."

Honesty Works!

Read a while ago about dealing with conflict in relationships (all, not just the big R ones) and the way we tend to withdraw and back off when there is a hint of conflict. The challenge was to move towards the other person and sort things out rather than hiding away and protecting oneself in a shell. Sounded great on paper but much harder to implement in practice. But, the challenge has been chipping away at me throughout the year. I've made small progress, obviously softly softly and with tact! I can look back at a small handful of situations where I opted for resolution rather than retreat....and was glad I did. Hopefully it'll get easier with time...but I suspect it'll be a lifetime of trial and error.

Honesty is the best policy...in practice.

It's Just One Day

...an ordinary day just like any other. And so unlike the simplicity of the reason behind it... a dirty stable with a pair of weary travellers and the birth of the saviour of the world.

Sleep Hygiene Summarised

I can wax lyrical about the benefits of sleep hygiene and all it can do to improve your sleep patterns. However as I'll say to the next person who complains of being tired then admits to a late night on a school night:

"you gotta be in it to win it"

Night, sweet dreams...

Most things are an awful lot better once you've talked them through with a friend...especially if it turns out they momentarily know you better than you know yourself!

CS Lewis Has The Final Word

A busy but fun day is drawing to a close so signing off soon. Been doing a lot of thinking recently, more than usual, and this quote popped into my head...

“We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

God will do whatever it takes to get our attention. I have found that to be the case in my life! Sometimes he uses suffering, hard to understand but true. And he is so ready to receive us if we'll only turn to him. The pain and suffering may well still be there, in all it's intensity, but a restored relationship with God through Jesus makes all the difference.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4 v 10

Christmas Present Wrapping

I'm pretty much there with present allocation but am overwhelmed by the wrapping...I am completely rubbish at wrapping presents...it's a challenge when it's just one present for a birthday let along an army for Christmas.

Wondering if I could hire some Christmas Elves to help me...tempting thought.

I've Got The Power

Tried singing that song this week but didn't go down too well. Apt song in the midst of power cuts I'd say?

Well power at the moment but been promised a potential 30 minute break between 5pm and midnight and ain't happened yet. Looks like I'll be asleep but no doubt woken by all the alarms which seem to go off when power cuts and is resumed. Small hardship compared with all those who have lost their homes to the flood waters. Can't imagine what it must be like for them.

Out Of The Blue Do Mariah

Out Of The Blue Christmas single from last year. This male Acapella group from Oxford manage to carry off any genre of song with charisma and appealing style.

All I Want For Christmas Is You

My favorite remains their offering for BGT semi finals in 2011 Jump. Just makes me laugh so much! The members change from year to year as they graduate but the quality remains the same...Oxford standard.
