Relationships A Mess Worth Making

This is a book on my reading list for next year. Loved the title since I first heard it...how true! Although this clip focusses a lot on marriage, the book covers all different types of relationship. I've watched this clip a number of times in the past and been really encouraged by how God's grace really does rescue us from the mess we get into with our various relationships.

"As long as sin remains, mess is a part of relationships. The question isn't how can I avoid the mess but what can I do about it."

This 5 mins clip gives some helpful thoughts and whets the appetite to read the book!

Hebrews Has The Final Word

Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help up in time of need.
Hebrews 4 v 16

Such a privilege to have constant access to the living God through prayer. It's just so often we make prayer the last resort rather than first port of call in every situation. Looking forward to another dose of Hebrews tomorrow. We've reached chapter 12.

Best Laid Plans?

Plan A: Afternoon sleep then study

Plan B, nope, as about to nod off, door battered down by a cheery friend demanding a brew who then proceeds to clean the kitchen while I study. Her idea not mine.

Glad it was plan B!

Yorkshire Humour

...shamelessly stolen from Facebook friends but given I work in Yorkshire keeps up the lingo:

1)

A Yorkshire man takes his cat to the vet.
"Ayup, lad, I need to talk to thee about me cat."
Vet: "Is it a tom ?"
"Nay, I've browt it wi' us.

2)

Yorkshire man walks in to a shop and has a look around, after a couple of minutes the shop keeper says 'are you getting owt' man replies ' I've only just walked in!'

Friendships That Work

So was chatting this week to a girly friend about friendship stuff. Like you do! She has come to the conclusion that the best friendships are where you're relaxed and not putting expectations of how it should be.

And thinking about it I've found the same. I've had ideas of who I should be friends with but often turns out to be completely folk I end up "clicking" with and thus springs up unlikely friendships. And life is the richer for it.

Claridges

I have seen a couple of fairly rude postings on Facebook on the topic of the woman at Claridges who had to be moved on for breast feeding in public. Really?

My take on it? Well, one of the arguments for woman dressing modestly is not to be a stumbling block to men and cause them to have lustful thoughts. Apparently they think about sex every 5 seconds anyway so why make it harder! Having seen a fair number of friends breastfeed over the years I really can't see how that would have that kind of effect. Fairly messy business really. On the other hand, I have also come across a fair few feisty females, in the media and personally, who's dress is provocative and far too revealing. Surely if we're being consistent we should clamp down on this type of behaviour too?

Organise a breast feeding sit in?...in Harrods?!!

Dem Digi Scales Don't Lie

Yes, Yes, Yes!!! Weekly weigh in has proved that stress and lots of walking while continuing to eat a fair amount of inappropriate carb/fat does pay off. Could do better Miss Anna but heading in the right direction.

Time for American Pancakes (with butter) for breakfast then...

Sleep Hygiene Tip

Actually this isn't really a sleep hygiene thing because it is common sense but something I have forgotten before now.

On Friday night SWITCH OFF YOUR ALARM.

Friend Therapy

Best way to defrag from the week especially when accompanied by a chocolate slice made of Mars Bars. And a brew of course!

Mariah Carey Has It Sussed

Every Christmas she makes hundreds of thousands of royalties for this song. Makes you wonder if she's singing this song to her bank manager maybe?! Miss Anna don't be such a cynic...just trying to think of something I could do to start an early retirement!!

All I Want For Christmas Is You

The Weekend Plan

Soon and very soon I can start planning weekends again. Just one more Saturday of revision then freedom. Just one more weekend of doing the bare essentials to keep the show on the road.

Can hardly wait!!!

Tim Keller Wisdom

Painfully, suffering is almost a prerequisite if we are going to be of much use to other people. It makes us far more compassionate.

That is a Tim Keller quote which just came through on Facebook. Love his pithy Godly insights. It's such an encouragement that the tough things we go through are not wasted. Even if we can't understand exactly other people's situations we have likewise gone through hard and painful times so can offer a sympathetic ear, helping hand or practical help.

Be encouraged if you're going through it at the moment. God is making you more useful.

Stodge Therapy

Sometimes you just have to rack in those carbs with a visit to the chippy. Perfect start to the weekend.

Get Up And Go

It has so gone at the moment that the only way I'm keeping moving is through forced labour mentality! So keeping up daily exercise despite weariness, cold and general darkness. Actually does me the power of good to get out into the cold winter air. Bye bye couch potato, hello fitness and vitality!
