End of an era today. New start; direction yet unknown....

Wednesday, 15 December 2010

Purchasing a new laptop in the weeks before Christmas is problematic. Found a great deal but spent so much time thinking about it that the price went up as Christmas approaches...getting it tomorrow before there is another hike up. No such thing as a free lunch eh?

Monday, 13 December 2010

Just got a big job done with the help of another pair of hands. Many hands make light work. Phew, glad it's out the way. Wasn't nearly so bad once I got started...

Tuesday, 30 November 2010

Ggrrhhh...keep forgetting password to an important account and it's frozen again. Duh, feel so stupid. Should have written the password down but then you're not supposed to do that are you? Will have to grovel for another one tomorrow on the helpline. Please, don't let me be the only one?

Monday, 29 November 2010

What a beautiful, crisp winter evening. Time to be curled up with a mug of cocoa and a good book. INSIDE!

Thursday, 29 July 2010

Been challenged by the leper coming to Jesus asking to be healed, "Lord if you are willing, make me clean"...He came to him as Lord in an attitude of worship not first seeking what the Lord could give him but acknowledging that he was God.

Another Saturday walk in the rain? Has Miss Anna learnt from last Soggy Saturday?

Saturday, 10 July 2010

Oh what needless pain we bear when we don't take everything to the Lord in detail of our lives too small to escape his notice.
Only a Brit would set off for a 6 mile walk in the pouring rain. No other choice in our climate eh?!

Friday, 9 July 2010

Trust is the opposite to fear. We fear the unknown, what lies ahead in the future, what we can't see. As Christians, we don't have to face the future as an unaccounted for unknown. We have a gracious and loving heavenly Father who goes ahead of us and has every little detail worked out. Nothing takes him by surprise, no twist or turn of providence makes him go "whoops" I didn't see that coming! He is a good and kind God; look at the cross to see that demonstrated "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us"...when our circumstances are perplexing and hard to understand may the Lord give us grace to both trust him and keep our eyes on the cross where we see his extravagent love displayed for us when he sent his son to die in our place.

I'm still here...just sustaining a very bad and prolonged dose of BB...

If you have any thoughts on "Incarnational living" then you might want to pop them on the comments section to help this theological student/blogger with a disertation of 10000 words! (10/6/10)
Been doing a lot of iteration the last couple of days!

Maths and Psychology

...and when you've done the next thing you do the next thing then when you've done that you do the next thing and then...this is an example of iteration...

What do you do when you don't know what to do next? Do the next thing...

"We are overwhelmed by anything which comes into our life if we do not hand the burden of the difficulty over to the Lord" Anon
I have just "planted" some ready grown tomato plants in a grow bag. What a wonderful experience. The smell of their leaves, the feel of the soil around my hands and the sound of the water gushing into the growbag. Amazing what gardening delights can be enjoyed in a humble back now contains a beautiful collection of flowers and of course, some tomato plants!
Matt Chandler talks in his weekly updates about going to London for a church leader's conference...well here is what he was doing. Explains here the importance of discipleship; hard work but well worth it in the long run...
Sometimes you just have to get through a day the best way you can...
Character is only formed through facing obstacles and working through them. The same is true of friendship; it grows through hard times.
Watched "Definitely Maybe" last night. On the surface, a feel good chick flick. When I've thought about it, actually quite a disturbing film. Simple plot: a daughter asks her Father to explain who her real mother is; it takes nearly 2 hours of a film to get to the truth and meanwhile it becomes clear that this man has dipped in and out of the lives (and hearts) of 3 woman, one of whom he married and had a child with, the girl's mother. What is disturbing is the way that he shows no sense of commitment to any of them; living for the moment as each one steps into his life at different points over the years. An interesting observation is that the one he ends up with in the end is the one who he had built up a close and enduring friendship with over the years of his other relationship confusions, including 2 diamond engagement rings.

Friendship, romance and passion...these are wonderful blessings only available between a man and a woman who choose to do things God's way.
Miss Anna is missing church this morning. Not feeling too great this morning; hoping to be able to make it out this evening. I feel I'm missing out though by not being where I belong, in my church family, hearing God speak through his word and being with my Christian friends. The major key to Christian growth is the truth of his word moulding and changing how we think and feel; only God's word can go to the very core of our being. Sometimes we have to face up to things about ourselves we'd rather not see; things we'd never even share with our closest friends. But God loves us too much to just leave us to be mediocre Christians; he truly wants the best for us. Both challenged and encouraged by these words I read this morning from Elisabeth Elliot:

Saturday, 5 June 2010

Sometimes you just got to walk alone; no one else can walk your walk for you...the most anyone can do is hold your hand for part of the journey.
When in doubt, Over Practice:
Just obtained a copy of a book which has been on my Amazon wish list for a few months how: How People Change by Timothy S.Lane and Paul David Tripp. An excellent publication from CCEF who are such a wonderful source of encouragement for anyone seeking to help brothers and sisters to grow in grace through difficulties in their personal world and baggage from their past. Biblical counselling is a much neglected area in our churches in the UK but with so many wonderful resources on their website, podcasts, blog articles you can easily access things to help; something for everyone.

This extract describes what is happening to a Christian when they're in the middle of a deep trial.

When you are in the middle of the Heat, you haven't gotten yourself outside the circle of God's love and care. God is simply taking you where you do not want to go to produce in you what you could not achieve on your own. As you rest in his love, you will learn about the heart behind your responses so that you can grow in the faith, hope and love to which you were called. The Heat will remain because it's a fallen world and we still need to change. But in it all, his grace is always present and always present. Psalm 46 v 1
Isn't there something beautifully decedant about a leisurly lunch with an old friend; what a happy way to waste a few hours!

I am having a split identity...trying to get things set up in Wordpress but having trouble exporting "http:/" in...going to have to have a peep at the book I borrowed last week...will get there. Gotta get out of this comfort zone and move on to better and bigger things...

Men and Responsibility: Mark Driscoll. Once again, the importance of being a committed member of a local church and sitting under good teaching is highlighted.
We were born with a huge capacity to love...
Shopping hour session; a few "key items" for summer wardrobe...and research has been done into it so it must be alright? Hey..never mind...makes me happy!

God's timing...perfect. Never early, never late, always just on time.
When you're gone, the pieces of my heart are missing you
The words I need to hear to always get me through the day...
Why do we settle for anything less than the best? The mediocre ends up being our best and we feel the lesser for it...
Why are 6 custard creams never enough?! is still gaining ground over Star Bucks. The service is more personal, setting more intimate and cakes more yummy.
I love "Cake and Ice Cream"...I guess I'm a born blogger. That makes me kind of a bit of a computer geek too but I hope it's in a funky kinda way. Sitting down with my beloved of life's little luxuries.
Idolatry is the default setting of a sinful heart. Martin Luther
Waiting and trusting, eyes on the Lord. So thankful he is a God of such wonderful grace because I am a sinner of such magnificant proportions!
Encouraging video update from Matt Chandler, Precious lesson to be learned here of being thankful for each day and trusting God for tomorrow.
Death by Love, Addiction and Atonement. Mark Driscoll speaking at a CCEF conference...(scroll half way down the page to find it).
Your good days are not too good to be beyond the need of God's grace
Your worst days are not so bad to be beyond the reach of God's grace...

Thankful today that I'm not beyond the reach of God's grace; having a bad day. Grateful that his love for me is not "performance related." Nothing I can do can make him love me any more or any less. What a good and kind God I have.

This is a book too good not to miss, The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges. Daily devotionals with tons of application. Anything by Jerry Bridges is well worth a read mind you. Something to pop on your Amazon wish list...
Useful "life tip" here gleaned from a more seasoned member of the "running a house" club...put a wash on late at night, leave clothes in the machine overnight then get them out in the morning. Better strategy then dreaming of the day when a robot can do the washing for Miss Anna!
I'm having a blog identity crisis!!! Does C&I have too many categories??? I need your feedback guys cos when it is redesigned in wordpress there are going to be some major decisions to be made. My faithful readers are what makes the blog alive; your views matter. There are the usual material inducements for sane and constructive suggestions; at the discretion of Miss Anna of course...
There's a lot of strength in that is an example of a paradox.
Good friends...priceless!
A Psalm to gladden the heart on a miserable, wet Tuesday morning. Psalm 36 v 7-9
Honesty is usually the best policy in a friendship, makes it stronger. Anon
On Falling in Love, Stewart Henderson (edited extracts)
Fall in love with the person

If you love Leona you'll love this. If you're patient and leave her Echo playing then you'll hear this gem right at the end. What a beautiful love song (don't be put off by the title!)

Shopping, gassing, comfortable sofa, copious amounts of TV, a good curry and a gorgeous golden labrador. Mastercard will buy most things but the best things in life are absolutely priceless. Good friends; worth their weight in gold.
Sometimes when we stop looking for something we were searching for we find the thing we were looking for was actually there all along, staring us in the face...put your hope in God
Integrity: (Oxford definition)
1 the quality of being honest and morally upright
2 the state of being whole or unified
3 soundness of construction

Ouch, remember the word being used by Joel Beeke in his addresses at Aber last summer. What an ideal which we utterly fail to live up to, but should aspire to more in our Christian lives, with deep gratitude to God for his grace to us for all the times when we mess up and fail to act with integrity.
This one's for the guys (or the gals wot don't know what to buy the special guy in their life for his birthday...)...

I love you "cake and ice cream" and want the best for you...that's why ur "url" might be changing soon. Ouch, sorry don't want to hurt will be the best thing in the long me....please don't get cross with "wordpress"'ll love having "widgets" and "stats counters" and "static pages" and.....the list is endless, dizzy heights of blogging luxury.

Thursday, 27 May 2010

As Rachel Barkley shares a moving 55 minute message about facing her own death from cancer with hope she gives four important "knows":

1) Know God
2) Know yourself
3) Know the gospel
4) Know your purpose
Another "Gilbert and Anne" video. This time the slant is Anne playing "hard to get" over about 10 years. Ouch, ouch, ouch, poor Gil :(.

Prefer the mix for the original song by Avril Lavigne, talented young lady

Wednesday, 26 May 2010

My head hurts after reading all about "wordpress" an alternative sort of blogging software. Don't panic, oh faithful readers, you'll still get the usual garbled output of Miss Anna but it just might be all a little bit visually more sophisticated...hhhmmmppp, we'll see...
"The Choir" moved on to "Boys can't sing"...well they can with Gareth Malone directing them:

Sting, "Fields of Gold" like you've never heard it before...

Off to find (yet another!) sunset....tough life eh?
Brave guy! So looks like David Tennant too with that spiky hair do...Watching series 1 where there is the definite absence of the DT hair shallow is Miss Anna?!
When Miss Anna was at the gym this morning (how impressive is that?!) saw this report on BBCNews 24 about loneliness. Sad reflection of the breakdown of marriage and family life in our society today. More people than ever are living on their own. Tickled tho, at the end by the promotion of the "urban village" model.

Manhattan in New York has 50% lone households, more than anywhere else in the United States, yet its 'urban village' model sustains social networks because people habitually use alternative meeting places, including cafes and public spaces," the authors wrote.

Thumbs up then to keep supporting Star Bucks and the Yummy Cake Company!
When you know, you know...(like I keep saying!)...

Monday, 24 May 2010

Why would Miss Anna rather watch the same DVD over and over again rather than watch a new one??? Duh, some things have no simple answers. 2 weeks notice is the late night movie....must be the 14th time by now easily. Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock; the latter is my favourite actress. The former can't act and just recycles all the same roles...
The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety.

One is not as good as two...
Where your pleasure is, there is your treasure; Where your treasure is, there is your heart; Where your heart is, there is your happiness. Augustine
Iona did this song: but God has the first word on this one:

Sweet dreams...
Sun, sun, sun but ouch, ouch, ouch....just learnt the hard way why suntan lotion is such a good idea!!!

Saturday, 22 May 2010

Sun, sun, sun...enjoy the one day of proper summer while it lasts!
If you're a Christian, take a moment today to thank God for his goodness to our nation. And don't forget to pray for revivial too. The only solution for our country is the gospel; only the grace of God can change human hearts.

Friday, 21 May 2010

Sometimes you just have to STOP...chill-ax and leave the Lord to take care of EVERYTHING. He can be trusted...
Why do you say, O Jacob,
and complain, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the LORD;
my cause is disregarded by my God"?

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
God is good, 24/7...

Not been perfect, but all in all, a good day. And with the sun shining can hunt out a good sunset! God is so good. what I wanted from the "company".....only took about an for words....Ain't life just great!
"Young, Restless and Reformed, add to your amazon wish list

Even if you're not Young, not Restless and not Reformed a fascinating read of what the Lord is doing in America using the likes of John Piper, Mark Driscoll et al...and even if you're a charasmatic there's a chapter for there are American "reformed charasmatics" wot sing hymns which are hundreds of years old... has now overtaken Star thing is the shape of the mugs. Miss Anna is a very fickle coffee shop sense of loyalty...easily swayed...where will be next???
Just about to make the 2nd phone call of the day to a "business" which needs certain "security info" which I didn't happen to have on me when I made the first call. Favourite drink in Star Bucks isn't a good answer...aaaaggghhhhh, ggggrrrrrrhhhhh, aaaaggghhhh.......that's better. Here we go's the jingles you have to listen to while you wait.....calm down, count to ten 1, 2, 3 (erm, what next?) call Take 2...
Allotments are the best: join the TAAA, The Allotment Appreciation Association; they're like a bunch of amazing them and life is never the same again...just make sure you have an escape route out...Allotments can be muddy places but the vegetables they produce are amazing especially the radishes and the die for...
A new day dawned...what will today bring? (Jamie Cullum would be a nice surprise but I'm not holding my breath on that one!!!)
Good to see some readers are ticking the comments boxes. But only some and not all. Ticking off (!) here from Miss Anna (with a scary "look")...and you could even put some comments below. The last reader that did that got a chocolate bar...making no promises but...

Here are a couple more blogs; much more high brow and theological than mine tho! and
Nearly died of laughter at this...
Takes a long time to grow an old friend...
Cooked veggie breakfast and a latte in the SAINs cafe. One of life's simple but delightful pleasures...
When a friend is really going through it show you care...they might not want to talk, meet up, answer the phone but you can find ways of making them laugh, silly texts, facebook messages...etc and they won't feel so alone when they're walking through a dark time.

We've all been there.."I want to help X but I don't know what to say"..."I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing"..."they must have loads of people helping them; they wouldn't want a card from me..." The list is endless eh?

So if you have a friend who is going through it don't be afraid to show you care; tiny things might just make their day.

Miss Anna is wavering between going to watch Westlife or Leona Lewis in concert...this sways her towards Westlife

but then then towards Leona...

BTW, Footprints in the Sand is based on this poem:
If you own a pet and it gets sick then look no further than here:
(and I think I'm owed a free lunch for that little piece of advertising given that I don't even own anything which I'd ever need to take to the vet....and like millions of people read my blog....)
Why is falling in love so dangerous? Because you run the risk of losing what you want more than words can say...
A wise friend of mine who is now in a far better place once gave me some very sound advice: "you know when you've met the right person, you don't need to convince yourself."
God's timing is always perfect...down to the nearest second...
Great place, good place to go for a long gas with an old friend because tucked away from everywhere:
However, I can see trouble ahead with the arrival of these things:
They may have been around for a while but they could well be the new cupcake, SAINs magazine this month is show casing them. Last Autumn Peggy Porschen was leading the trail with her wonderful cup cakes. If SAINs mag reckon whoopies are the new thing they're probably right...oh dear."yummywhoopiepie" just doesn't sound the same.

Miss Anna is OK tho cos she'll probably just continue in the rut of Star Bucks cos they're the best, always the same, right down to the tables always being cluttered with the previous person's stuff...and that odour of milk and baby food which is always around.
New day...

Monday, 17 May 2010

Two are better than one...
Hairdressers in Lancaster:
blueberries and yogurt for breakfast....yum
So, who's gonna come and watch Leona with me (and pay £80 for my ticket too)?
For any of my readers considering the possibility of future theological study here are some Biblically sound institutions which also do correspondence courses. It is my prayer that some of you guys will feel called to the ministry; how we need a new generation of gospel preachers faithful to the word of God. Anyway, here we go:
An extract from Jonathon Edwards description of heaven and perfect human relationships (need a larger brain than mine to read the whole article):

Heavenly lovers will have no doubt of the love of each other. They shall have no fear that the declarations and professions of love are hypocritical; but shall be perfectly satisfied of the sincerity and strength of each other’s affection, as much as if there were a window in every breast, so that everything in the heart could be seen. There shall be no such thing as flattery or dissimulation in heaven, but there perfect sincerity shall reign through all and in all. Every one will be just what he seems to be, and will really have all the love that he seems to have. It will not be as in this world, where comparatively few things are what they seem to be, and where professions are often made lightly and without meaning; but there every expression of love shall come from the bottom of the heart, and all that is professed shall be really and truly felt.

Miss Anna had a lovely surprise this morning....

Saturday, 15 May 2010

A DELIA Spanish Tortillia:
Not been the easiest of days for Miss Anna; what a comfort the words of this song are:
"Nothing has changed." Whatever providences a day brings us, however perplexing or distressing, we can be certain that nothing has taken God by surprise. He remains in complete control. This touching article (yet another from CCEF!) explains how Ed Welch was so affected by the way a close friend dealt with his terminal illness.
Exciting day ahead. Well nothing really exciting, just a new day. But you never know what a day may bring? Boundless possibilities...
Brave moment here. The original motive for starting this blog was because I wanted to put the following "article" on it. Taken me a while to get round to it...just that it "ages" me...quite literally..but, you're only as old as you feel, 30 is the new 21 etc etc so here goes:

Anna’s 30th birthday speech, 8/3/08

Sometimes doing the right thing is just so hard, you know going the right way with a perplexing providence, being obedient and not trying to take any forbidden gotta just pray about it, leave it in the Lord's hands and trust him that "Too wise to be mistaken he, Too good to be unkind"
"Lay it down slow"...from Prison idea what the show is...stole this link from a facebook wall...ssshhhh!

Fox's party rings...they're the way to go...!
Unlimited LoveFilm subsciption here I go......
It was a privelege to hear Jason Murfitt talk last night at my church's prayer meeting about the work he is doing with his wife Andy in Brazil, working in the Amazon reaching people who have never heard the gospel before.

This is the passage he spoke about for a few minutes:

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." Romans 1 v 16-17

Without Christ we are utterly lost. Jason described it like being in a dark room, with no lights, and in the middle of the room is a whirlpool leading down to hell. That is why the gospel is such good news. We can be saved from the judgement which our sin deserves and have eternal!!!! That's something to get excited about.
Don't go to Holland and Barrett for your vitamin pills and stuff like that, go to health and brew
His strength is perfect when our strength is gone...

The Chapman family have adopted more than one child but tragedy struck in May 2008 when Maria was killed in an accident:

It is so easy to take our eyes off the Lord, start looking elsewhere for the solution to our problems and difficulties. But, only in him can we find out true happiness and joy.
I loath PowerPoints....for the sake of the computer geek who invented them hope I never meet him/her...
Perfect spot
Loads of walks nearby and compulsary bacon buttie and cup of tea at the world famous woodies snack bar NB not open on Mondays and Tuesdays...
Anticipate a good day today. Sun is shining, going out with a girly friend this morning. Only blot on the horizon is my gym induction this afternoon.....dodged it for over a year now. Gotta face it sometime!

Baked tattie, quiche lorraine and a tomato and avacado salad. Better get on with it....going to struggle removing the packaging from the ready made quiche though. What an effort ready meals are to prepare....
A classic from one of my top blog readers:

Channel 4 News last night, pictures of Gordon Brown arriving at Buckingham Palace to resign. Jon Snow in the studio comments - "Well if, as we're told. her majesty watches Coronation Street, she'll have to miss it tonight"
check out these Elvis wannabes:
What a beautiful day, sun is shining brilliantly and not a cloud in the sky. Still won't be a perfect day (the reason for that is called life on planet earth!) but I can dream....For the moment a day without too many hassles will do for me...!
I am struggling with my regular quiet times at the moment. Just throwing that out there to encourage other believers having the same problem as me. Thank God for his wonderful grace and limitless patience with me; need it more than ever and will never not need it.
You should meditate on the words of this hymn every morning you wake up if you know and love the Lord: (and if you haven't seen Amazing Grace, it's an ace film)
I have become embroiled in a competition to make the best Spanish tortilla. May have over reached myself on this one because my rival is a Spaniard. However, I have a secret weapon.......DELIA. She never gets it wrong so I'm hoping if I follow her recipe to the letter I'm gonna win. Goes I gotta win...I so hate losing especially when it comes to cooking. Failure is not an option....Results will be available after next Sunday lunchtime...
Trying to move on from bacon and eggs for breakfast but kind of reached a ceiling on the breakfasts there. Egg, bacon, HP sauce sandwiched between white bloomer bread. Is there anything better? Chocolate bar to anyone who comes up with anything better...
Oh good...took them a few days but at least it's all sorted now. Mr and Mrs C (toried) are moving into No 10. Mr and Mrs C (lib dems) at no 11 then? Sure they'll work it out. Phew, what a relief, not that I was that bothered really like cos you know what I believe, God is in complete control of everything but we can watch providence unravel itself under his sovereign rule:

Here is the biblical take on the God who rules over EVERYTHING (look out for the word "grasshopper" and then think of "politician"...puts things in a better perspective.

Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor?
Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him,
and who taught him the right way?
Who was it that taught him knowledge
or showed him the path of understanding?
Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

To whom, then, will you compare God?
What image will you compare him to?

He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.

selected verses from Isaiah Chapter 40

Not quite sure what the plot is to the music video but my no1 song at the moment: Leona Lewis, Happy

and my no 2: Leona Lewis, I've got you

and 3 isn't what you think it is.....! her first song I think:
You know how some days are just rubbish from the minute you wake up, everything seems to go wrong then all of a sudden the sun comes out and things seem a lot better. Or is that just me? Today's change for the better for me might be to do with increasing my LoveFilms subscription to unlimited!
Lovefilms is a totally ace DVD etc rental package and I'm addicted...packages start at £3.99 a month for 2 a month but go anything up to unlimited if you love watching films (hence the title!) and you can have 30 days free trial: (check it out...)
Another excellent CCEF article addressing the age old question of young Christian couples who are dating: How far are we allowed to go? How many times has that question been asked in CU seminars on relationships or Q&A sessions on Christian summer camps? Not seen an article as well written as this on the topic before. Good old CCEF....
Been a roller coaster on the DVD couch....having watched "My Girl" which had a very unhappy ending I was consoled by the certainty of a Jane Austen happy ending in "Northanger Abbey." Phew!
Even if you haven't been following the weekly Matt Chandler check out this one where Lauren also talks. Grace of God sustaining a young family through a huge trial.

Long walk in the country followed by hot chocolate and chorley cake with butter. Oh yes, and loads of bluebells, white garlic flowers and the company of a good friend. Good afternoon....
If you're looking for somewhere to have a really yummy meal then you have to go to this place:
One of life's small luxuries. The Avon catalogue. Contains almost everything you need apart from food but for that there's SAINs online. Sorted.....don't ever have to go outside the front door! Bliss.....
Why does my nail varnish always chip after only a few hours? However many coats I put on?
If you don't know him already I pray that this will help to convince you how much you need Christ:

I thank God for day of the week!

Saturday, 8 May 2010

This gives a good summary of the chaos which is running our country at the moment. What a comfort that God is in complete control of EVERYTHING.
Not a bad singer is he, our Bon Jovi? Just a slushy, sentimental love song here:

Friday, 7 May 2010

This is very sad, I know I'm in a minority amongst most of my friends on this, but become a bit of a Westlife fan in the last couple of years. This song is about the hardest 5 letter word in the world to say, especially to those closest to your heart.
If you're fed up of being depressed about not knowing who's running the country then check out this: Dan Walker is a Christian, high up in the Sports media who continues to take a stand on not working on Sundays. I have been in the same room as his brother in law. Does that make me famous?
What do you hang a hung parlimant on? String? Or does it need the flexibility of elastic?
What is the most important thing in my life? My relationship with God. Here is one of my favourite hymns:

1. My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand.

Genesis 7v1-16. What theme is repeated 3 times in these verses? Noah's obedience. That has been a real challenge to Miss Anna today. Night, zzz
Been good to spend time in my little Miss Anna world but the day now beckons with it's share of tasks and responsibilities so I need to log off and get on with "stuff." Catch ya later!

Waiting...eyes on the Lord. He has every detail under control.
April and still grappling with the New Year's resolution on contentment...
BB set in again...

Get some good stuff from The Village Church. Found this a very challenging article about the power of words. Read online at
Sorry guys, missed a few of the Friday updates from Pastor Chandler. If you scroll half way down the page you can catch up on how he's been doing the last few weeks.
I enjoyed spending time with one of my small friends yesterday. The world through the eyes of a 5 year old is such an exciting place. Everything is fresh and new. We shouldn't lose that enjoyment of life when we grow up but so easy to get bogged down by all the responsibilites of adulthood that we forget to look and enjoy the small things.
You meet some pretty amazing people as you journey through life and find yourself in different circumstances. Some people have such interesting stories to tell of their experiences, often tough and heart breaking yet showing amazing strength of character to have made it through "against all odds." Ain't life just great sometimes.
I am going to watch Preston North End next weekend. Going with a couple of lifelong fans so will need to be on best behaviour. Sensitive to their emotional fragility if PNE lose. Better stop there before I way something I later regret!!!
Calling all redheads...a disturbing fact I discovered in an article I read yesterday:

Redheads have on average around 80,000 hairs while those with blonde hair have almost 120,000 hairs.

So if your hair is of the "auburn" variety you should hold on to your hair carefully. Each strand is special.
The brain is a very complex organ. We talk about the mind when we want to classify the outworking of our thoughts in our emotions. But that is where there has to be a divide of the sexes. Men, on the whole, tend to be a lot more logical and analytical and are more reticent to vocalise how they feel. Woman, on the other hand, are a cocktail of emotions, hormones and, if you find them at the wrong time of the month, can seem like a rollercoaster of irrational feelings every time they open their mouth!

I sometimes think God must have had a sense of humour when he decided on the instiution of marriage. Yet, what a delight to see an old married couple still head over heals after 40 years together.
Read this and found it very comforting:

He does not lead me year by year
Nor even day by day
But step by step my path unfolds
My Lord directs my way.

Tomorrow's plans I do not know
I only know this minute
But He will say, "This is the way,
By faith now walk ye in it."

What is the biggest agnst of being a bridesmaid so far....predicting what dress size you'll be in a few months time. Very thankful I still have gym membership......we're going to get much better acquainted over the next few months!
What is the first thing you think about when you wake up? How about the one who created you, sustains you and who is worthy of every bit of your life especially your best.
You know what the best thing about sunshine is? Being able to wear them!
I am now the proud owner of a pink Ipod...the main thing is the colour. The music wouldn't play so well if it was blue. I am a girly girl at heart and my accessories have to be mainly pink or at least some strain of purple.

Now, who has been on my mind the last couple of days. Well, more "in my mind" because I have spent hours escaping into my own dream world with the aid of a pair of earphones. Michael Buble has been an unexpected hit and Leona Lewis; getting in some dance moves with her too (do not laugh...I am deadly serious....I have unrecognised talent in that area). And Matt Redman too has been keeping my eyes pointing in the right direction. I adore music..... one of life's many blessings...

Saturday, 3 April 2010

Good friends. What a blessing they are.
I have been dying to write on my internet access at the moment. But when I sit down to write WB sets in.

N.B. WB = Writer's Blog..did I have to explain that. Wearing my Teacher's tee shirt "take nothing for granted"...spell everything out in 3 letter words...

Thursday, 1 April 2010

Bruce S is rather good at playing the guitar. Wonder if he'd give me some lessons if I baked him a chocolate cake?! Or would I need to bake 2?
Blogger's block. Bad dose of BB this morning; other things on my mind. Back soon with more zing in my scribblings. Meanwhile; check out some of the other blogs I've put on my blog!

Miss Anna is so enjoying getting a few proper night's sleep. Maybe she could be superwoman after all?

No, probably not. Superwoman wouldn't need 8 hours in order to function properly and save the world! You're stuck with just boring, normal  Miss Anna...

Tuesday, 30 March 2010

I so appreciate my faithful "CakeAndIceCream" readers even if you only "blog on" once a month.
I think good old CHSpurgeon said this first but been thinking about God's timing. Never too early, never too late, always just on time.

Monday, 29 March 2010

Miss Anna has not forgotten her faithful blog readers...having problems getting access to the internet at the moment!

Thursday, 18 March 2010

On a day involving a lot of patient waiting I am chillin' out to some music. Remind myself though that every detail is in the Lord's hands, I can trust him.
Something for all (?) my Bruce Springsteen fans:
1) Stand by me
2) I still haven't found what I'm looking for
3) It's my life

Miss Anna had a wonderful birthday dinner filled with lots of hilarious KODAK memory moments!

Saturday, 13 March 2010

Miss Anna is getting ready to go out for a birthday dinner with friends.
Patience....such an easy word to hard to exercise it in practice.
It's Miss Anna's birthday today and it's a beautiful day. She's looking forward to lots of treats and surprises!

Friday, 12 March 2010

A good friend emailed me these words knowing I needed some encouragement in a time of waiting to be patient. Sorry about the delay in them getting posted. Been so busy.

Lord, we know that Thou art near us,
Though Thou seem'st to hide Thy face;
And are sure that Thou dost hear us,
Though no answer we embrace.

Not one promise shall miscarry;
Not one blessing come too late;
Though the vision long may tarry,
Give us patience, Lord, to wait!

While withholding, Thou art giving
In Thine own appointed way;
And while waiting we're receiving
Blessing suited to our day.

O the wondrous loving-kindness,
Planning, working out of sight!
Bearing with us in our blindness!
Out of darkness bringing light.

Weaving blessings out of trials;
Out of grief evolving bliss:
Answering prayer by wise denials
When Thy children ask amiss!

And when faith shall end in vision,
And when prayer is lost in praise;
Then shall love, in full fruition,
Justify Thy secret ways.

Been reading The Discipline of Grace by Jerry Bridges

Found this section very challenging in terms of considering how we relate to one another in interpersonal relationships in various contexts:
  • I am patient with you because I love you and want to forgive you
  • I am kind to you because I love you and want to help you
  • I do not envy you because I love you and want to help you
  • I do not envy your possessions or your gifts because I love you and want you to have the best
  • I do not boast about my attainments because I love you and want to hear about yours
  • I am not proud because I love you and want to esteem you before myself
  • I am not rude because I love you and care about your feelings
  • I am not self -seeking because I love you and want to meet your needs
  • I am not easily angered by you because I love you and want to overlook your offenses
  • I do not keep a record of your wrongs because I love you, and "love covers a multitude of sins"
